Glorious Goodwood, Thursday

After a great weekend, Goodwood has been anything but Glorious for us so far this week.

We had two account bets today. Both were very well backed but neither troubled the judge.

London Stripe, 2pt win @ 4/1 was thought of as possibly a group horse running in a handicap.
The form of the stable was a slight concern so we kept stakes low.
He was well supported (as all our selections have been this week) and traded as low as 1.6 in running but weakened inside the final furlong to finish mid division.

We also backed Flying Cloud, 3pt win @ 9/4.
She ran a great race last time out to finish 2nd in a race where many of her competitors were fancied and was expected to go one better today.
Again, well supported down to 6/4 at the off, she was travelling well and making ground two furlongs out but hampered. She lost all momentum from there and couldn't reach the leaders only managing 5th.

A disappointing week so far but there is almost certainly one bet tomorrow.

Strangely, July has been a poor month for us in general.
We lost around 30 points in July 08 and 09. We are currently just over 3 points down so far this month which is very frustrating.
July really should be one of our best months as the ground is generally stable and most horses are running as consistently as the every will be.

One member suggested we should take the month off next year and that may not be a bad shout!

Hopefully we will end the month in much better style over the next 2 days as we hate losing months, even if its just a few points.
