A good day for members today that could have been a fantastic one with a bit more luck.
We started with Miss Zooter, 2pt e/w @ 7/1.
Taking a drop back in trip and a downgrade in class, connections felt this one may have got into this race quite lightly.
She was well backed into 5/1 by the off . Things were spot on until they went in the stalls!
She missed the break and the official form line is "in rear, not clear run 1f out, switched right and ran on towards finish under a hand ride, not reached leaders"
In truth it was more like "not clear run for 7 furlongs"
Its hard to say she would definately have won with a clear run but she would have finished a lot closer.
Fortunately the Channel 4 commentary team didn't make too much of a big deal about how unlucky she was so we may get a price next time out.
Our second bet of the day landed a right old touch.
Explorator, 4pt win @ 3/1 was well backed all day.
Improvement was expected for his handicap debut, now he was stepped up to a more appropriate distance. Improvement certainly came.
He was held up at the back of the pack and niggled along slightly after 4 furlongs or so. He stayed on consistently well from there and hit the front with a furlong or so to go and drew away.
A comfortable winner, landing a nice touch, he returned at 11/8.
We have another one or two to look out for from George Baker's yard over the next week or so.
They really are one of the best yards in the land to land a touch.
Elsewhere there were good words for two or three other horses that we could have backed.
Two of these also didn't get the clearest of runs so we won't mention their names as they may well be account bets soon. One has an entry for the weekend.
There should be a bet tomorrow but thats not certain until we take a few calls in the morning.
Thanks for reading
