Weekend catchup

A profitable weekend, guaranteed by a good winner today.

We had one small account bet on a very tricky looking day of racing on Saturday.
Rafiqa, 2pt win @ 5/1 (best odds guaranteed returned 7/1)
She is looking to move out of handicap company as the yard target some black type for her and yesterday was a good opportunity to do this.
She ran a good race but never looked quite good enough to win the race and could only manage 3rd. She may need a drop of rain before showing her best but we won't give up on her just yet.

Today we had two account bets.
First up was Al Joza, 1pt e/w @ 7/1. (best odds guaranteed paid 10/1)
There was a good word for this runner who was said to have come on a ton for his last run.
He broke well and battled on very well to hold on and win by a head.
We had a couple of emails before the off as the horse was drifting on Betfair. Many runners from this yard drift before the off as the money is often on well before the last 30 minutes to off time. Nothing to worry about, the better the price the more we win!
Just goes to show though why we must use best odds guaranteed whenever we can.

In sharp contrast our second bet of the day was very well supported.
Spirit Of Darley, 1pt e/w @ 9/1 was fancied in a similar way to Al Joza.
Another one who had come on a ton for his first outing and was fancied to put in a much improved performance.
He was very well backed, right into 7/2 by the off time but despite being in a great position with a couple of furlongs to go he weakened dramatically.
We haven't heard from the yard yet but he looked to go lame, possibly as a result of the very firm going.

A good weekend overall but it would have been nice to get the double up today.
Can't be greedy though and we have to be pleased with a profit on a very tricky looking weekend of racing.

There is a possiblility of a bet tomorrow, we are waiting on a call or two in the morning.

  1. Completely unexpected outcome with Spirit of Darley - i went big on him and he looked to be cruising home. Yes the ground was very firm, but really, I was expecting easy money. Oh well, what's up next?
