Beaten before the off

Poor stuff with our only account bet today where we knew our fate before they started.

There was a good word for Princess Flame, 3pt win @ 9/4. A tricky horse to win with, her form had been well disguised and she was thought to be well in here.
By off time though she had drifted to 8/1 and we pretty much knew our fate before they started.
She actually ran ok but never looked like winning. She raced up with the pace but found little inside the last furlong and faded inside the last 100 yards to finish 5th.

On speaking to our contact the reason for the drift was given that she fretted up badly in the paddock. We weren't at the track so can't comment other than to say we won't be using the same contact again.

A poor finish to the month, albeit a slightly profitable one.
We also had our fair share of bad luck in the month with many placed horses including a couple that finished second, beaten by decent looking horses.

June has traditionally been a good month for us as the season has usually settled down by now. There is some great racing in June and we have many horses we have been waiting for that are due to run over the next couple of weeks.

We have a bet lined up for tomorrow at Leicester but that will depend on the price.

2 small losers

Similar story for both our account bets today. Both were small bets and both ran poorly.

First up was Bold Marc, 1pt e/w @ 5/1. He was trying today after showing more at home recently. However, he was never travelling and although he was given plenty of assistance from the saddle, could only finiah 5th.

We also had Lowdown, 1pt e/w @ 16/1. Similar story where a place was expected at the minimum but he was never travelling well and finished 9th.

Not too much damage done as we staked sensibly because of the ground but it would have been nice to have at least one of the two bets placed at least.

The next couple of days are looking quiet but the end of the week is looking much busier.
We have bets already lined up for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

June is a great month for racing and we are really optimistic of some great profits.

Got the right one

A good day today on a day where there was lots of information going around.

We could have had a few account bets but settled with just one, Avrilo 3pt win @ 11/4. Best Odds Guaranteed paid 3/1.
Another horse thought to be well in after missing the break last time out but still running a good race. She had previously won, finally breaking her maiden tag and connections feel she has finally come to herself.

She broke well but we were a little concerned with how freely she was early on. She pulled hard for the first furlong or so but then settled and disputed the lead.
She looked like she may be swallowed up as she had challengers all around her approaching the final furlong but showed lots of courage to battle on and win well.
Now they have the hang of her she may well go in again.

We now look certain to show a profit for May, albeit possibly a small one.

Lots of other info around today. Some good, some not so.

There was a good word from the Prescott yard for Aestival and he was a good winner but too short for us.
Nice to have a link into that yard though as that may well be profitable when they really start letting their runners loose, over the next few months.

Whispered Times was fancied each way in the 5.40 but he ran poorly.

Edas was also a possibly each way bet in the 6.40. Not really a betting race for us and we did well to swerve that one.

In the 9.00 tonight, King Of Windsor is said to be fit and well at home and is fancied. We have put this up as a free bet on Twitter. A small word for the other two at the top of the market stopped this being an account bet.

There is plenty of rain forecast for tomorrow so we will be keeping our eye out on the going before deciding about any account bets.
We are still waiting for our maximum bet to run. This is still planned but won't be for at least a week or so.

No go glow

One small account bet for us yesterday, Leonid Glow, 2pt win @ 6/1.
Thought to be well in after an unlucky run last time he again didn't get the clearest of runs. However, when the gaps did come he didn't quicken up as expected.
If he had as much in hand as connections thought he would still have been good enough to win from the position he was in but that wasn't the case.

Elsewhere there was a good word for Silca Conegliano, aslo at Nottingham. He ran well enough but bumped into a nice looking winner in Idiom.

Currently its unlikely there will be an account bet today but we are still waiting on a couple of calls.
We do have a bet lined up for Saturday.

Good start to the week

One small account bet today, King Of Eden, 2pt win @ 11/4.
Thought to be well handicapped after not getting a clear run last time out, connections were confident of a win with a clear run today.
The issue of not getting a run was cleared up early enough as David disputed the lead for much of the journey to ensure a clear run. He kicked for home two furlongs from home and was clear with a furlong to go.
He won eased down by 6 lengths, never really in doubt.

In hindsight we probably should have staked more heavily but thats often the feeling after a winner!

King Of Eden is due to run later on in the week.

Elsewhere, the 6.40 at Windsor was an interesting race with a word for 3 runners in the same race.
The strongest word was for The Shuffler (3rd) who was well supported all day.
Edition (2nd) was fancied each way after not getting much of a run last time out and the winner, Avon River was expected to improve for the application of headgear.

The race was never a betting race with at least 3 runners fancied but a nice one to watch all the same.

Nothing lined up yet for tomorrow but we shall see what the morning phone calls bring.

Caught another good one!

Two account bets today and it didn't quite happen for us.

The first bet, Love Delta, 2pt win @ 4/1 was disappointing.
He was fancied to improve for being back on fibresand but he was never looking like the winner. No excuses for that one.

Our second bet ran into a very good horse. The second time this has happened recently.
We had been waiting a long time for Elshabakiya, 4pt win @ 5/2 to run as she is one of the best 2yo's in the yard. The price was taken as early as 6pm last night on Betfair - we mentioned it in last nights blog - so it was no surprise to see her drift on course near the off. We mentioned it in the morning message that it was vital we were on best odds guaranteed.
There were clearly a lot of other horses fancied in this hot maiden as money came for half the field and she drifted to 6/1.

She ran a great race but ran into a very good one, Maqaasid who beat her half a length.
Frustrating as she beat the 3rd horse home by a length and a quarter with the rest of the fiels well stretched out in just a 5 furlong race.

Thats the 4th selection we have had this month finish 2nd so although we are still being a bit unlucky almost every horse is running well. On another day they come home in front and we would be very well in profit for the month.

We remain in profit for May though, albeit slight.

Nothing lined up yet for tomorrow but that may change. This week has already been much busier than expected.

Small profit

One account bet for us today and it was one of our biggest bets of the year so far.

There was an extremely good word for Elkmait, 3pt e/w @ 9/2. (Best Odds Guaranteed was 13/2)
Thought to be an extremely promising filly, big things were expected on her debut and a place was the absolute minimum that was expected by connections.
We weren't concerned by the big drift before the off because the price had been smashed up on Betfair before the high street bookies had priced the market up. - There is often an on course drift when this happens as the on course bookies have no liability on a horse that was backed at bigger prices over night, hence pushing the price out on course.

She ran a good race to get 3rd but wasn't in the same league as the winner who looks a very nice horse and is apparently Royal Ascot bound next. Elkmait didn't get the best of runs inside the final furlong when she started getting the hang of things and may have got second but that pays the same as third so no problem! Small profit on the day, thanks for the on course drift.

Elsewhere there was a good word for Soul Station at Goodwood. He was given a great ride from the front and won with the second home (Hypnotized) possibly an unlucky loser.

We have a bet lined up tomorrow but again its being smashed on Betfair already so word is out.
We will evaluate in the morning and see how the ground lies.
